This new moon bookends the Aries new moon on the 1st April and is THE Black Moon that I’ve been talking about since that time. Black Moons refer to two new moons in one calendar month and are a signal to be introspective and reflective on what we wish to manifest in the outer realms. This new moon is also a partial solar eclipse and marks the start of the eclipse season for this year. As a result, this new moon heralds a time of change and fluctuation, making self-contemplation even more pressing. This is a powerful new moon for May Eve, so this reading will in effect double up as a May Day/Beltane reading as the energy of it is so strong.
The Sun and Moon are conjunct Uranus, so this in itself indicates that we will be seeing a lot of changes over the remainder of the spring. As the moon is in Taurus, you can bet for sure that the issue of finances and work will be affected. On a deeper level, what we are being asked to examine is what it is that we truly value and hold dear, as this is what Taurus represents. What do we think has worth? Obviously, our finances and jobs will have a big part to play in this, so we can expect further difficulties in the financial system, inflation and probably food shortages are going to play a role as well, as Taurus is also about food and nourishment. Uranus here suggests volatility and unpredictability for these things, so prepare as well as you can for the unexpected. Mars supporting this aspect from Pisces also suggests that intense soul searching will be beneficial right now, and that following our intuitions regarding these sorts of practical issues is important.
This new moon will also impact relationships and our own self-worth. For many, it may even be that we come to recognise the true worth of human relationships that we may have sacrificed for money. All of these themes will dominate for the remainder of the spring as we are being pressed to recognise what gives our lives the most meaning, rather than just comfort.
Saturn in Aquarius is making a hard square to the North Node in Taurus. This is an interesting one, and I’m wondering if it relates to Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter. The North Node is always about the evolutionary direction of travel, it shows us where the zeitgeist is, where we need to go to be fully in the right place and time. In Taurus, it represents, amongst other things, the little person, the everyman. Saturn in Aquarius is representing Big Tech and its iron-like grip on the flow of information on the internet. Mercury is very near to the north node in early Gemini and Musk is a very Mercurial figure. Mercury is about to go retrograde – in fact it is what is known as “in shadow” now and will be retrograde from about the 10th May until early June, so it will be interesting to see what happens to the Twitter takeover during this time. In a nutshell, though, we can expect all sorts of spanners in the works with that Saturn square, especially from the Big Tech giants. Things should ease up after that though. As always with a Mercury retrograde, watch out for contract signings or any kind of information exchange, as it is much more likely to go awry. As this retrograde period is in Taurus, keep an eye on any significant financial transactions over the retrograde period.
Venus, Neptune and Jupiter are making a glorious conjunction in Pisces. From here, they make lovely aspects to Pluto in Capricorn and to Mercury, especially as it goes retrograde. As I said at the start of the month, the work to be doing at the moment is within, it really is an opportunity for a psychic and spiritual quantum leap, if you want to catch that wave. Spend as much time as you can communing with the gods, however you do this. Let yourselves be inspired by them, talk to them, pray to them. Ask them for guidance and for signs. Make offerings. Learn their language, our ancient language of signs and portents. Let them in and they will help you change your life.
